After meeting in Fukuoka, Japan on 8.7.00, the finance ministers of the Group of Seven leading industrialised countries admitted that high fuel costs presented a risk to world growth.

Separately, the G7 finance ministers agreed a plan to increase pressure on countries that are seen as not tough on money laundering and other financial crimes. The ministers announced they would issue formal warning notices to their domestic financial institutions of the risks they run when dealing with 15 countries which include Russia, Israel and Liechtenstein.

Agreement was also reached on a radical plan for reform of the lending facilities of the International Monetary Fund.
