Summary:

Non-binding report - adopted by the European Parliament's plenary session in March 2018 - concerning gender equality in trade agreements concluded by the European Union (EU).

Further information:

The Report highlights that all EU trade agreements must include an enforceable 'Trade and Sustainable Development' (TSD) chapter, and calls for the inclusion in such agreements of core labour standards and of other international instruments on women rights. It calls for effective measures to combat the exploitation of women in export-oriented industries and it stresses the need to collecte gender-disaggregated data on the impact of trade. It also calls for the reinforcement of corporate social responsibility and due diligence in free trade agreements.

The resolution was approved on 13 March 2018 by the plenary session of the European Parliament with 512 votes against 107.
