German authorities ‘underestimated’ neo-Nazi murders

A German parliamentary enquiry set up to look at the 'systemic failure' of police and secret services issued its report in August 2013. It reported that German authorities had 'grossly underestimated' the neo-nazi threat and allowed a gang of murderers in a group called National Socialist Underground to kill 10 times over seven years without being discovered.

An alleged member of the cell, Beate Zschaepe, went on trial in May 2013.

Deutsche Welle reported on the 7 October 2013 that a new centre had been opened to help the victims of the bomb attack, as old wounds would be reopened for those affected with the trial.
