Germany’s club house doors are bolted

The dismantling of the intricate network of cross-shareholdings that made up post-war German capitalism may be one of the biggest advances in corporate governance in the country in the past few years.

But as the crushing defeat on the 11 February 2010 of a candidate proposed by rebel shareholders for chairman of chipmaker Infineon shows, the supervisory board of German companies is still in need of reform.
