Germany’s future coalition allies clash

Germany’s future government partners crossed swords on the 7 October 2009 as allies of Chancellor Angela Merkel raised doubts as to whether the CDU and FDP could deliver the tax cuts promised before the September 2009 election in the face of deteriorating public finances.

Officials from the two parties are in the midst of negotiating a mutually agreed government programme.
