Gibraltar becomes ‘part of the west country’ for EU elections

The (UK) Electoral Commission recommended on 28 August 2003 that Gibraltar be regarded as part of south-west England when selecting MEPs for the European Parliament. The move follows a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights in 1999 that Gibraltar should be attached to a mainland constituency.
