Genetically modified crops continued to spread across the world in 2009, according to the most comprehensive annual survey of GM planting.

In 2009 the area of biotech crops increased by 7% to 134m hectares (330m acres) in 25 countries, the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications said on the 23 February 2010. Fourteen million farmers worldwide grew at least some GM crops.
