Romania's government collapsed on the 13 October 2009 after less than a year in office, heightening uncertainty in the country as it struggles to implement a package of reforms imposed by the International Monetary Fund.

On the 15 October 2009 Romanian President Traian Basescu nominated a new prime minister Lucian Croitoru to replace Emil Boc.
