Government publishes cost-benefit analysis of EU membership

The Swiss Government has published a cost-benefit analysis of EU membership called 'Europe 2006 Report'. A condensed English language version can be accessed via the related url.
The purpose of the report is to take another look at Switzerland’s policy on Europe in the
context of defending national interests, and to review the different instruments available. It analyses
the impact of the main instruments in various key policy areas of Switzerland. Emphasis is placed on
the policy instruments specifically to underline the changing nature of the relations between
Switzerland and the EU. This report will serve as the basis for discussions on the future of relations
between Switzerland and the EU and how best to defend Swiss interests. It is also a reply to various parliamentary questions in this area.
