The UK Government, in July 2012, launched a review of the balance of competences between the EU and the UK - an audit of what the EU does and how it affects the UK.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) issued a call for evidence on social and employment policy on 29 October 2013. The social and employment review covers the main areas of regulation that affect the workplace: non-discrimination; regulating the employment relationship; social protection; health and safety at work. It also covers those areas of competence that aim to improve coordination between Member States on social and employment issues.

The deadline for responses to this consultation is 17 January 2013.
