Communication published by the European Commission on 5 April 2022, laying out a roadmap for this institution to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

Further information:

In 2019, the European Commission adopted the Communication on the European Green Deal for the European Union (EU) and its citizens, as a response to the climate and environmental-related challenges. The Green Deal ambition for the EU as a whole is to achieve at least 55 % net emission reductions by 2030 compared to 1990, to become climate neutral by 2050 and to decouple growth from resource use.

In this context, the Commission aims to reach climate neutrality in its operations by 2030 and reduce its environmental footprint. This Communication sets out the way the Commission will meet its objective to become climate neutral by 2030 and is accompanied by an action plan covering the major measures to be taken. The Commission’s objective is to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 60% by 2030 compared to 2005 and compensate remaining emissions with carbon removals.

This Communication was published on 5 April 2022 as one of the first actions of the Commission’s Human Resources (HR) Strategy, published on that same day.
