...according to new forecasts from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Although the Union's economy has been depressed by sagging business sentiment, the OECD believes that “high levels of consumer confidence and the expected gradual recovery in export markets” should ensure a 2&percent; growth rate this year and 2.5&percent; in 2000. At the same time, a downturn in consumer and investment spending in the US should produce growth of 3.5&percent; this year and 2&percent; in 2000, said the Paris-based agency.
