Guarding the watchdog – the Council of Europe and the media

This book reviews the Council of Europe's work in the field of the media from the 1950s onwards and provides the reader with a framework for understanding policy development and how important democratically regulated media are. It also informs on the challenges facing European media policy today, such as freedom of speech in the context of globalised terrorism, journalists in conflict situations and the pressing issue of media concentration. Part of the project 'Making democratic institutions work'.
