Haiti’s ‘invisible girls’ call on EU to gender-monitor aid

Young Haitian women activists called on Brussels to take steps to identify the beneficiaries of EU aid programmes by gender, and so help the ‘invisible girls’ of their home island.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas and after the 2010 earthquake, which killed an estimated 220,000 people, EU states, banks and the European Commission jointly pledged €1.23 billion in aid.
