Half of the Welsh Conservative group in Westminster UK Parliament - House of Commons) were expected to vote for a controversial amendment on Europe on the 15 May 2013 despite UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s dramatic decision to publish draft legislation on the 14 May 2013 to pave the way for an in-out referendum by the end of 2017.

Four of the eight Welsh Tory MPs planned to vote for an amendment stating they “regret” that legislation for a referendum was not included in the Queen’s Speech of the previous week.

Two prominent Welsh Conservatives in the Assembly also heightened eurosceptic sentiment by stating they would vote to leave the EU if a referendum were held the next day.

Deputy leader of the Welsh Tories Paul Davies, and Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar, both said they would vote to leave under current arrangements with the EU.
