Hollande government confronts grim outlook

France’s new socialist government sat down with trade unions and employers for the first time on the 29 May 2012, facing the daunting task of reconciling presidential campaign promises on jobs, wages and pensions with a grim outlook on growth, unemployment and the public finances.
