Hollande secures parliamentary majority

Reports of the results in the French parliamentary elections, June 2012.

President François Hollande’s Socialist government secured a clear majority in the final round of France’s parliamentary elections on the 17 June 2012, winning backing for his growth-led policies to tackle the eurozone crisis.

The election also provided a breakthrough for the National Front, led by Marine Le Pen, which was projected to win between one and four seats, returning to parliament for the first time since the 1990s and joining a wave of far-right parties gaining strength in Europe.
