+European laws are changing faster than European mentalities. But there are still deficits in Europe's legislation. It protects gays and lesbians only up to the point when they want to formalise their status as couples.

+Same-sex parents are a fact nowadays. Nonetheless, the legislation still doesn't make it easy for them to lead a normal family life wherever they want to, writes Marie-Pierre Micoud, president of Europe's largest association for lesbian and gay parents.

+Only ten percent of Europeans claim to have been put at a disadvantage because of their sexual orientation. Yet over 50 percent of Europeans consider this type of discrimination to be widely prevalent, particularly citizens in the Mediterranean countries: Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Portugal.
