The United kingdom government was accused 6 October 2006 of 'evasion' and a 'lack of co-operation' by members of a European parliamentary committee investigating alleged CIA 'extraordinary rendition' activities in Europe. Baroness Ludford, head of the delegation, said that in a meeting with MEPs, Geoff Hoon, the minister for Europe and former defence secretary, had failed to respond adequately to questions put to him about CIA flights which had used UK airports, and the alleged role played by British security and intelligence services in the interrogation and secret transportation of detainees.
