Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party appeared on track for a resounding victory in municipal elections held on the 3 October 2010, which investors hope will embolden the Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, to unveil ambitious budgetary reforms.

The centre-right Fidesz party won an unprecedented two-thirds majority in national elections in April 2010, but had delayed laying out its plans for the 2011 budget until after the municipal polls.
