Spain must follow its proposed massive cuts in public spending with tough reforms in the labour market and far-reaching reform in pension provision, according to the International Monetary Fund, May 2010.

In an interim assessment published on the 24 May 2010 ahead of the full so-called 'Article 4' annual health check on the Spanish economy, IMF staff economists issued a series of blunt warnings about the need for reforms to generate growth.
