The president of Russia’s southern region of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, was seriously wounded on the 22 June 2009 in an assassination attempt that marked a fresh setback in the Kremlin’s campaign against terrorism in the north Caucasus. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called the attack, in the city of Nazran, 'an act of terror'.
