The European Parliament's internal market committee adopted on 3 May 2017 a non-binding resolution with a set of recommendations on an agenda for the collaborative economy.

Members of the committee argued the European Union should collect the benefits of the sharing economy while ensuring fair competition, workers' rights an tax compliance.

The document stresses the need to address regulatory grey areas that cause significant differences among member states due to national and local regulations and case law. However, it also advocates that regulation should not restrict the collaborative economy.

This initiative is the Parliament's response to a proposal put forward by the European Commission in June 2016 on a EU agenda for the collaborative economy.
