Irish ‘no’ vote threatens to upset EU enlargement

The voters of Ireland rejected the European Union's Treaty of Nice, in a low turn-out referndum, threatening to cause a constitutional crisis for the EU and upset the process of admitting new states from eastern and southern Europe.
