Islam should not be reason to stop Turkey joining EU, says minister

Islam should not be a reason to keep secular Turkey out of the European Union, the country's minister for religious affairs,
Mehmet Aydin, said on the 31 July 2003, as he launched a scathing attack on the treatment of women in Saudi Arabia, Iran and Pakistan.
