Date: 10/12/1998 saving 50&percent; more than the European average, according to a new report by the EU's statistical office Eurostat. The Danes are at the bottom of the saving league, stashing away 61&percent; less than the EU average. The figures, for 1996, are based on the savings - disposable income minus expenditure - of households per person in 11 out of the 15 EU countries. They show that people in countries joining the euro-zone next year saved 8&percent; more per capita than the EU average of 1,948 ecu. |
