Joint Statement by President Juncker, Prime Minister Rajoy and Prime Minister Costa on the agreement reached concerning the Almaraz case

The European Commission assisted and mediated Portugal and Spanish authorities in order to reach an agreement on the Almaraz case.

This settlement engages Spain and Portugal in a constructive consultation process and dialogue allowing for a solution to the ongoing dispute on the construction of the nuclear waste landfill at the Almaraz nuclear power station. In a reinforced spirit of cooperation, the parties have also agreed to continue exchanging information on the Almaraz temporary spent fuel storage facility.
