Justice chief António Vitorino has pledged to step up the fight against human traffickers this year by working to end loopholes and harmonise laws

In a visit to Stockholm this week the Commissioner said there must be 'no safe havens' for criminals who deal in human beings. Vitorino said the work on common definitions of trafficking and appropriate punishments would intensify during the first half of 2001, and the aim was to reach a decision by May.
