Labour joins with Tories to vote against Single Market Membership

Plaid Cymru instigated a debate in the National Assembly of Wales on the 21 September 2016 on the Motion 'Membership of the European Single Market'. Adam Price, AM said the aim of the motion was 'to bring some clarity to the current position in terms of the Government’s policy on Brexit. We’ve seen a policy that is confused, chaotic and completely lacking in any credibility. That obviously has incredibly detrimental consequences for the interests of the people of Wales as we face probably one of the biggest challenges that any of us have faced in our lifetime'.

Plaid's motion was amended and passed by a Conservative Party motion, which the Labour Party in the National assembly voted for.

Plaid Cymru responded by saying
'The Labour government joined with the Conservative in rejecting a Plaid Cymru motion in favour of Single Market membership, and supporting an alternative Tory amendment which advocated only access instead.

The final motion supported by the Labour group also called for clarity on the Labour Government’s position on freedom of movement after the First Minister dropped his previous support for the policy'.
