The Cour de Justice de la République, a French court, ordered a judicial investigation on the 4 August 2011 into the role played by Christine Lagarde, the newly appointed head of the International Monetary Fund, in a €285m arbitration payment to the controversial businessman Bernard Tapie in 2008.
