VentureEU aims to provide new sources of financing, giving European innovators the opportunity to grow into world-leading companies. Around 1,500 start-ups and scale-ups were expected to gain access across the whole European Union.

The EU provides cornerstone investments of up to €410 million – including €67 million of EIF own resources: €200 million from the Horizon 2020 InnovFin Equity, €105 million from COSME (the programme for small and medium-sized enterprises), and €105 million from the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI). The rest of the financing should be raised by the selected fund managers primarily from independent investors.

Background information:

The Commission announced the creation of a Pan-European VC Funds-of-Funds Programme (VentureEU) under the Capital Markets Union (CMU) and the Start-Up and Scale-Up Initiative. The initiative was first proposed by as part of the Open Science, Open Innovation and Open to the World strategy in 2015.

VentureEU is part of the wider ecosystem that the EU vowed to put in place to give Europe's innovative entrepreneurs a wider set of opportunities to become world leading companies.
