Date: 19/09/02 ENVIRONMENT Commissioner Margot Wallström launches European Mobility Week to promote sustainable transport policies. Some 300 cities across the EU participated in events throughout the week, which will culminate this Sunday (22 September) with European Car Free Day. The 'ban' will not apply to emergency vehicles, public transport - or balloons. The Swedish commissioner launched the green-themed week in Brussels' Parc du Cinquantenaire, declaring that policies that improve air quality and reduce noise would improve people's quality of life.
