• THE French football team this week called on both its country and the EU to halt arms sales to countries that violate human rights.

Amnesty International recently criticised France and Britain for selling weapons, often through third countries, to trouble spots in Africa.

Britain has also received harsh criticism for failing to cancel arms contracts with India despite its recent stand-off with Pakistan.
