The UK Treasury revealed on 9 February 2005 a secret archive on the events of 'Black Wednesday', 16 September 1992, when sterling was ejected from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism. The documents concerned had been requested by the Financial Times newspaper under the new Freedom of Information Act and reveal at least four important deficiencies in the Treasury's forecasting record of the time.
