The president of the European Council Donald Tusk and president of the European Commission Jena-Claude Juncker congratulated Roberto Azevêdo on his re-appointment as WTO Director-General on the 02 March 2017.

They pointed out that the EU is strongly committed to an open and rules-based multilateral trading system, which is embodied in the WTO.
