The EU Select Committee of the United Kingdom's House of Lords issued on 22 July 2015 its first Green Card, calling for the European Commission to take action to combat food waste.

In a letter sent to the EC, along with 16 other national parliaments, the Lords asked for a range of actions to cut down on waste. It includes better EU-wide guidelines on food donation and stronger monitoring of cross-border supply chains.

The Green Card is an initiative which enables the parliaments of EU Member States to join forces to make proposals to the EC, and thereby influence the development of EU policy.
