About 4,000 pilots at German airline Lufthansa went on a strike for four days starting the 22 February 2010 in a dispute over job security.

Later, the German pilots' union agreed to call off its strike form the morning of the 23 February 2010 until the 8 March 2010. Agreement was reached during a hearing at Frankfurt labor court after Lufthansa had called for an injunction.

Separately, it was announced on the 22 February 2010 that British Airways passengers face the risk of strikes after cabin crew voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action over pay and conditions.

BA and Lufthansa 'are both legacy carriers struggling with life in the 21st Century', observed John Strickland, director of the aviation consultancy JLS Consulting.
