The three finalists of the Competition were announced on 25 July 2017 in Rome during the Giornate degli Autori (Venice Days) and were to be screened and promoted during the Lux Film Days in all EU Member States from October to December 2017.

The 2017 LUX Film Prize winner was set to be announced on 15 November in Strasbourg.

Background:

In order to support the European film industry and help the most significant European (co)productions to circulate beyond their national market, the European Parliament LUX Film Prize subtitles the 3 competing films into the 24 official languages of the European Union and screens them in all 28 EU countries during the LUX Film Days.

The winning film is also made available for the visually and hearing-impaired, and promoted by the European Parliament.

The 10 films selected for the 2017 competition of LUX Film Prize were revealed on 2 July.

'BPM (Beats per minute)', 'Sámi Blood' and 'Western' were later announced as the three films competing for the annual prize.
