The European Parliament's plenary session approved in May 2018 a non-legislative reoslution on media pluralism and freedom.

The resolution calls on the European Commission to allocate permanent and adequate funding to support the Meda Pluralism Monitor and create an independent monitoring mechanism to assess risks to media pluralism and freedom in the European Union. The document also asks Member States to step up financial support to public service providers and investigative journalists, while refraining from involvement in editorial decisions.
