The wandering tribes of the Commission's former information and communications directorate-general seem to have found a female Moses, for a short time at least.

After Michel Barnier and Loyola de Palacio turned down the dubious honour of communicating the Union's merits and achievements to the public, up steps media darling Anna Diamantopoulou to take responsibility. It will only be for a limited period, we understand.

Otherwise, the press and communications service, including all of the Commissioners' valiant spokesmen and women, will continue to report to President Romano Prodi via their line manager, Jonathan Faull.
