Member states propose austerity budget for EU

The Council of the European Union adopted on the 12 August 2010 its position on the EU draft budget for the financial year 2011. The Council approved targeted cuts in the European Commission's original proposal whilst ensuring appropriate funding for the priorities of the European Union, in particular economic recovery.
