The jailed leader of Kurdish rebels fighting Turkey, Abdullah Ocalan, called on the 21 March 2013 for a truce after years of war.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan cautiously welcomed the call.

The EU welcomed the moves.
