European Commission Vice-President Viviane Reding, the EU's Justice Commissioner, has welcomed a vote by the European Parliament to back a new law improving rights for crime victims across the EU. The European Parliament voted in a first reading with an overwhelming majority (611 for, 9 against and 13 abstentions) to support the Commission's proposal for a directive setting out minimum rights for victims, wherever they are in the EU. |
