MEPs ‘gravy train’ may run into buffer

The notorious expenses regime of Members of the European Parliament may be about to run into the buffers, after a landmark agreement on 28 May 2003. MEPs have agreed to provide receipts to back up travel claims, ending the system where they can make tens of thousands of euros a year from fictitious flights, but only in the context of an new pay package - not yet agreed.
