MEPs this week gave their backing to a campaign to end violence against women

They called for zero tolerance towards acts such as rape, physical abuse, genital mutilation, sexual harassment, incest, pornography and enforced prostitution. They also suggested that 1999 be made the European Year Against Violence Against Women.
