Previews and reports of meetings of key players of the eurozone debt crisis in the week of 19-26 August 2012. Eurozone chief Jean-Claude Juncker travelled to Greece on the 22 August 2012. German Chancellor Angela Merkel met French President François Hollande on the 23 August 2012, while Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras was due to meet Mrs Merkel on the 24 August 2012 and Mr Hollande on the 25 August 2012.

The German and French leaders sought to reconcile their differences on the way forward in the eurozone crisis, including on how to deal with the deteriorating debt situation in Greece.

Eurozone leaders reiterated that they would not make decisions about supplying fresh aid to Greece until after international lenders (the 'Troika') had completed a review of Greece's finances towards the end of September 2012.

On the 23 August 2012 Antonis Samaras, Greek Prime Minister, demanded an end to open speculation by European officials about a Greek exit from the euro, saying it undermined the country’s efforts to restore its economy and prevent what he warned could become 'a geopolitical nightmare'.
