Merkel pushes for transit zones, warns of military clashes

German chancellor Angela Merkel was expected to hold meetings with the centre-left coalition partner SPD, aiming at a compromise agreement which would allow the country to establish transit zones for refugees and migrants, following an agreement with CDU's sister party, Bavaria's right-wing CSU.
