Merkel’s challenger Schulz unveils plan for ‘modern Germany’

Social Democratic (SPD) leader Martin Schulz launched a 10-point Future plan for a modern Germany" on the 16 July 2017 as part of the SPD campaign for the Federal Elections due on the 24 September 2017. Schulz said that the plan would push Germany into a modern era of increased investments and renewed eurozone integration.

The SPD was almost 20% behind Chancellor Merkel's CDU in the opinion polls.
