Dozens of migrants briefly boarded a moored ferry in the French port of Calais on the 23 January 2016 in a bid to reach the United Kingdom before police removed them from the ship.

The prefecture said 24 migrants and 11 members of a pro-migrant movement called the No Borders Network were taken to a police station.

The occupation took place after protests against the 'Jungle' camp for migrants in the port of Calais.

Local politicians in the Calais area voiced anger at the law and order situation. The UK Road Haulage Association called for more 'decisive action' to secure the port.

The French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said that France 'total determination' to maintain law and order.
