Ministerial Meeting between the EU, MERCOSUR and Chile, with the participation of Bolivia, Panama, 12.02.98

The third Ministerial Meeting between the European Union and the States party to the Mercosur and the second Ministerial Meeting between the European Union and Chile were held in Panama on 12 February 1998, in the framework of the provisions on political dialogue existing in the agreements between them. The Ministers welcomed the presence on this occasion of Bolivia.

During this meeting, the Parties reiterated their firm interest in enlarging the existing links between them in particular in the areas of trade, investment and cooperation and through the promotion of diversification in their international relations. Mnisters of the European Union and Mercosur noted with satisfaction the work undertaken by both sides in the preparation of the "photograph" of trade relations with the aim of the completion of this phase of the work under the British Presidency of the Council of the European Union and Argentine Presidency of Mercosur, in accordance with the calendar adopted by the second Joint Commission in Punta del Este, in November 1997.
